    Google Page Annotation Feature:

Google Page Annotation feature: Google’s new page annotation feature has been shut down, disabled, and turned off. This function allows Google to take control your writing, add links that you didn’t add, and reroute your content to Google Search. Google shut it down, so it is no longer here.

In the Google App native web browser, Google was able to “collect relevant entities from the webpage and underline them in line.” This is a recall of the way the page annotations feature operated in the iOS Google app. Google leads you to other search results when you click on them.

A message saying that “The Google Page annotation feature is no more available.” was just released by Google. Since it is no longer, Google took it out of its documentation.

I do not really know who Google believed when they chose to launch this function, but it should make everyone pleased. What were their expectations of the owners of content?

Yes, it was possible to disable page annotations, but doing so required a lot of work and was a hack.

Google first revealed the Google Page Annotation feature in this way:

We have created a new feature called Google Page Annotation feature in the Google App browser for iOS. It extracts interesting entities from the webpage and highlights them in line. When the user clicks on the highlighted entity, it will direct the user to the search result page for this entity. Web publishers are able to opt websites they manage out of this feature by submitting this form.

However, the feature disappeared, disappearing into the Google ethers.
